Welcome to Model Railway Scenics, a practical resource for anyone who wants to improve the scenic side of their model railway layout.

My name is Justin Noble. I’m originally from Leicester and now live in Mevagissey, Cornwall, where I moved in 2020. I’ve been building model railway layouts since my early teens, and my interest in the hobby was first inspired by my late grandad, John Henry, who worked on the railways at Mantle Lane, Coalville as a guard during the 1960s and 1970s.

Although I have a good working knowledge of railways, my real passion has always been scenery. For me, it’s the scenic detail that brings a layout to life: the buildings, roads, yards, vegetation, weathering, small details and realistic finishes that turn a collection of track and trains into a believable miniature world.

I’m also co-founder and co-owner of Scale Model Scenery Limited, together with my lovely wife, Tina. We’ve been running the business for over 11 years through our main website, scalemodelscenery.co.uk, helping modellers create more realistic layouts with practical, easy-to-use scenic products and materials.

Through Scale Model Scenery, I’ve spent years designing products, building scenic projects, writing guides, answering customer questions and helping modellers of all skill levels get better results from their layouts. That experience has played a big part in shaping this site.

Model Railway Scenics has been created as a dedicated knowledge base for the scenic side of the hobby. Think of it as a growing library of useful information, covering how-to guides, tutorials, glossary terms, product guides, material guides, techniques and practical advice for building better scenery.

Whether you’re just starting your first layout or you’ve been modelling for decades, the aim of this site is simple: to help you understand the materials, methods and techniques that make model railway scenery more realistic, more enjoyable and more achievable.

I’ll be sharing what I’ve learned from my own modelling, from running Scale Model Scenery with Tina, and from many years of being involved in the hobby. The goal is to make Model Railway Scenics a friendly, useful and reliable reference point for anyone who wants to improve the look and feel of their railway layout.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope Model Railway Scenics helps you enjoy the scenic side of the hobby as much as I do.
